Email Marketing - What Do Your Subscribers Want In An Email?
Lisa Rae Preston

Transparency, appreciation, real value.

That's what your website visitor wants. They're tired of scams and incorrect information. They want quality content from a person of integrity. And that's what you want to give your potential customers -- those loyal subscribers to your newsletter.

Nothing will take the place of absolute transparency, simplicity, honesty, and kindness. The Golden Rule is the only rule of conduct that will bring true success in any business.

Now, what you want to do is go the extra mile for those who subscribe to your list.

It's the service we are not obligated to give that people value most. Everybody feels that a business should treat customers decently. But it's the above and beyond service, the extra courtesy and kindness, the patience and helpfulness in trying to give the greatest possible service--these are the things customers appreciate most. And these are just the aspects that cement customers to certain businesses.

Remember, you want these subscribers to become customers and to stick with you. Your livelihood is in the backend sales you make (the repeat sales to your customers). So keeping your subscribers means more money in your pocket.

Be Yourself

You're unique, and people will want to read your emails if you're "you", and not trying to mimic someone else. You have gifts and talents galore, and an individual way of communicating with others that's unlike anyone else in the world.

Being yourself and opening yourself up to your subscribers (transparency) offers them a connection with you (relationship). Share some little personal tidbit at the beginning of each email and a kind wish for a great week at the end. (appreciation)

Be funny -- be real. The refreshing difference will make your messages stand out!

Remember that your potential subscriber/customer will be always on guard at first. He'll be expecting to be swindled. And no wonder he's skeptical! I have discovered several "crooks" on the internet, and unfortunately, lost some hard earned money to their schemes.

So, initially, every email marketer who approaches them (including you!) is viewed as a smooth-tongued salesman. Your primary responsibility is to create a trusting, friendly relationship with your subscribers.

Give freely of yourself, show that you care about the best interests of your subscribers by offering quality information. Be yourself. Give folks the opportunity to get to know and trust you. Then you'll have not just a list of subscribers who may or may not open your emails, but a list of friends who are excited to hear from you week after week.
