Ah, Sunshine!
Ann Shorb

2 CORINTHIANS 4:6
God, Who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts.

Ah, sunshine! We've had a long hard winter with a lot of dreary days here in Pennsylvania, so when the sun comes shining through, it's like medicine. It feels so good. It warms my body, brightens my mood, and quickens my step. The sunlight is a relief from darkness, and a giver of hope and gladness.

The other day, as I wandered through my home enjoying the sunlight pouring through the windows, I found myself singing an old hymn that we sang often in the church where I grew up. Maybe you know it. It's called "Sunlight in My Soul," and it goes like this:

I wandered in the shades of night, Till Jesus came to me, And with the sunlight of His love Bid all my darkness flee.

Sunlight, sunlight in my soul today, Sunlight, sunlight all along the way; Since the Savior found me, Took away my sin, I have had the sunlight of His love within.

Though clouds may gather in the sky, And billows round me roll, However dark the clouds may be I've sunlight in my soul.

Sunlight, sunlight in my soul today, Sunlight, sunlight all along the way; Since the Savior found me, Took away my sin, I have had the sunlight of His love within.

Soon I shall see Him as He is, The Light that came to me, Behold the brightness of His face Throughout eternity.

Sunlight, sunlight in my soul today, Sunlight, sunlight all along the way; Since the Savior found me, Took away my sin, I have had the sunlight of His love within.

This old hymn written by Judson W. VanDeVenter (1885-1939) is a great reminder that the love of Christ is available every day to those who know Christ as their Savior. Even on dreary rainy days, and through the long cold winter season, His love can fill your heart and bring you joy.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for warming my heart today with the sunlight of Your love.
